F.A.Q's

What fly patterns are most effective?
Streamers such as Bow River Buggers, Ganders, Clouser Minnows and Gartside Leeches work consistently throughout the year. Effective nymphs include Gold Ribbed Hare's Ears, Prince Nymphs, San Juan Worms, Golden Stones and any of the Bead Head Nymphs. Depending on the time of year, effective dry flies include Blue Winged Olives, March Browns, Elk Hair Caddis, Pale Morning Duns, Tricos and various hopper patterns. We can be more specific when we know the date of your trip.

What sort of accommodation is available in Calgary?
ArtStream has a corporate account with a very comfortable hotel conveniently located on the south east side of the city. Several upscale luxury hotels are located downtown. We are happy to make reservations for you or give you more information.

Are there other things to do in Calgary?
You bet! A host of activities are available for a non-fishing day or a non-fishing companion. The world famous Calgary Exhibition and Stampede takes place in early July, and music festivals (jazz, folk) take place throughout the summer. Calgary offers fine dining and shopping, a world class zoo, Canada Olympic Park, trail rides, cowboy and western culture, UNESCO world heritage sites (Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump and the Tyrell Dinosaur Museum) and easy access to the Canadian Rockies, Kananaskis, Banff and Lake Louise. ArtStream staff know the city and surrounding area very well and would love to help you make your trip to Southern Alberta a wonderful experience.

Is there other fishing nearby?
The Lower Bow is the crown jewel in Alberta's fisheries. Other good streams are located within a two-three hour drive of the city, some known for their beautiful scenery. ArtStream works with guides who specialize in the Upper Bow and in walk-and-wade trips to smaller streams.

What about the crowds?
The Bow is far less crowded than some of the blue ribbon waters you may have fished in Montana or other popular spots. You will see other anglers on the river but the Bow is big enough to accommodate the relatively small population of fishermen. We pride ourselves locally on the courtesy extended by guides and anglers to one another; we are confident you will enjoy your trip without any worry about crowding.
